Memorial Day- On a day like today we must honor those who have gone into battle and sacrificed their lives, body mind, and spirit. Those who have survived physically have not been unaffected mentally or emotionally (even that affects the body). PTSD is not just four letters popular for now. Trauma is real. We all have experienced trauma in some ways. Some, more than others. But we also all vary in our ability to cope with stress and trauma. However, I could not imagine being in a war and experiencing anything like that and being able to come home and make sense of this world in light of that world. We must honor our troops in every way we can. We need to lead the efforts to help our soldiers recover because they deserve it, and so we can better understand the human condition and help everyone else who suffers from these similar things. It’s not just about positive thinking and medication. It’s about every possible tool we have and more importantly can have. Please support the education and funding of mental health research, education and treatment in any way you can, especially new ways! It is key to healing our society let alone each other and our friends and families, whether PTSD, depression, addiction, anxiety whatever it may be that ails our minds and burdens our hearts and makes it hard to live and enjoy life! Our nation’s constitution “grantees” us the pursuit of happiness- the least we can do is start to help those who have sacrificed for it and are now disabled and now struggle to achieve their constitutional right for the pursuit of happiness! We all deserve it : )
The Art of Asking for Help – Amanda Plamer ( band Dresden Dolls) makes an important statement about asking for what we need and how hard it can be. I know this personally on so many levels. I would not be here if it were not for the help others have given me whether I asked for it or not, bot learning how to ask for what I need is a powerful tool in my life today. Not everyone knows what we are going through, or what we may need right now, or tomorrow. Letting people know is letting people in. Once we let someone in we are no longer alone, and our burden is lessened. With the help of others I have been able to overcome many cchalleneges and difficulties. Thank you all for beging there for me!
I also believe the future of art and music is about the artists and musicans getting direct support from family, friends, and fans working more closely together as well as other “Artist Helping Artists Be Artists” – Artist Collective www.facebook.com/artistcollectivebiz
Tavius.org was originally developed by Mathew Lewis, CO. He wrote the html code for it and begrudgingly gave me administrative access to WordPress and I screwed it up, bad, Not to mention my typos, misspellings and bad grammar, but enough of that. This will be a test site for motivating my personal network to support my artistic and creative endeavors. I hope to learn how best to activate an artist’s/musician’s personal network to support their artistic/creative endeavors.
My first experiment will be a fundraiser for USB drives (hopefully customized “Tavius.org”) with pre-loaded content. I plan to put 6 books of poetry and 6 albums of electronic music on the USB drive and ship them for $20. If I can motivate my friends and family to buy my entire life’s work for only $20 on a USB drive they can reuse for anything they want then I might have a start at this. We shall see. Only time and effort will tell. What will it take to motivate?
